Q - Is this register open to everyone?
A - No, the register is only for members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.  However it is available for any company or organization who is looking for an independent director.

Q - Do I have to pay a fee to join the register?
A - At the moment, the register is free to all members.

Q - Do I have to pay a fee if I use the register to search for an independent director?
A - No, the ICAEW Malaysian Chapter does not charge a fee for this service.

Q - If I am a member of the ICAEW, am I automatically included in the register?
A - No, you must register yourself by completing the online registration form.  You will be notified once the registration is received.

Q - If I have already registered on the UK site, do I still have to register in Malaysia?
A - The 2 registers are separate so if you wish to be in the Malaysian register, you will need to complete the Malaysian online registration form.

Q - How will I know if a company seeks an independent director?
A - If your skills and experience match those required by a company, you will be contacted by the Secretariat.

Q - Will my personal details be given out to companies without my permission?
A - No, all members’ details are kept by the ICAEW and will only be given out with your permission.

Q - What do I do if my details change?
A - If you move or any of your personal details change, please inform the Secretariat by email to info@icaew.com.my.  Please do not complete another registration form.

For Companies

Q - How do I find an independent director?
A - Enter your requirements via the online search form and we will match a suitable candidate(s) for you.

Q - How will I know if there is a suitable candidate?
A - ICAEW Malaysia will contact you once we have identified the right person(s) matching your criteria. 

Q - Does your register include other professionals or is it only for Chartered Accountants?
A - The register only contains members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and not other professionals or other chartered accountants.

Q - How much does it cost to use the service?
A - At the moment, the service and use of the register is free.

Q - Is the register available for companies based outside Malaysia?
A - Yes, non-Malaysian companies are also welcome to use the register.

Q - Can I search for UK independent directors?
A - Unfortunately, the 2 registers are maintained separately so you will have to refer to the UK site for UK registered directors.

Q - How many times can I use the register?
A - There is no limit to the number of times you can use the register.
