Sunway College offers prestigious ICAEW Training Programme (ACA) in Malaysia

Sunway College has been appointed as an approved tuition provider for the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) ACA programme.

"Our appointment will establish Malaysia as the fourth (4th) country in the world to offer the ICAEW ACA programme after UK, Cyprus and Greece. This is an achievement not only for Sunway College but for Malaysia as a whole," said Tan Sri Dato' Seri (Dr) Jeffrey Cheah, Founder and Chairman of Sunway College.

With more than 125,000 members, the ICAEW is the largest professional accountancy body in Europe. The prestigious ACA qualification offered by the Institute is recognised as the premier qualification for business and finance professionals. Graduates of the ACA earn the prestige of calling themselves Chartered Accountants and even to use the designatory letters ACA or FCA.

Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah also announced that Sunway College has been given the approval by the Minister of Higher Education to establish a University College.

"With our new status as a degree-awarding university, ACA students can be assured that they will be receiving not only quality education but the best in educational facilities," said Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah.

The occasion was witnessed by the Minister of Finance II, Y.B. Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop. Also present were British High Commissioner, His Excellency Mr Bruce Cleghorn, Mr Paul Druckman, President of the ICAEW, Dato' N. K. Jasani, Chairman of ICAEW - Malaysian Chapter, Mr Lee Weng Keng, CEO Sunway Group - Healthcare and Education, and Ms Elizabeth Lee, Principal of Sunway College.

The ACA programme will commence on 20 September 2004. Professional lecturers both local and from the UK will conduct the initial block releases as well as the subsequent weekend tutorials and revision classes, spanning a period of 3 to 4 years.

The part time course comprises nine papers including an Advanced Case Study. The prerequisite for the Advanced Case Study requires the ACA candidate to have 3 to 5 years of practical experience with an ICAEW Authorised Training Organisations (ATO).

The occasion also saw the presentation of certificates to 4 newly accredited ICAEW Authorised Training Organisations (ATO), an addition to the existing 13 in Malaysia. They are the Sunway Group, Peter Chong & Co., Resorts World Berhad, and ECM Libra Berhad.
