The ICAEW Malaysia Lifetime Achievement Award

YBhg. Tan Sri Dato Sri (Dr) Mohd Hassan Marican, President and CEO of Petroliam Nasional Berhad or Petronas, has been recognised by ICAEW Malaysia to be the first recipient of the ICAEW Malaysia Lifetime Achievement Award for his lifelong achievements in promoting and advancing Chartered Accountancy as a profession in Malaysia.

Tan Sri Hassan, a Fellow of the Institute, as well as a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and the Malaysian Association of Certified Public Accountants, made great strides in advancing the Chartered Accountancy profession as a vital part of the Malaysian economy and commerce.

While in practice and as President of PETRONAS, one of his greatest achievements was the creation of a scholarship to identify and train young Malaysians to become certified professional accountants. PETRONAS initiated its full fledged Chartered Accountancy Programme in 1990, and has since trained hundreds of accountants.

YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Tan Sri Hassan in Shanghai on 5th September 2005.
