What is a Training Contract?
A training contract means you will work
for three years to five years with an employer that has been authorised
by the ICAEW to train students. You will complete a number
of work assignments that count towards the practical work
experience you need to qualify as a Chartered Accountant (ACA).
Which Firms offer the training contract?
A list of authorised training organisations in Malaysia is available here.
How do I get a training contract?
You need to contact the training organisation(s) directly to find out whether they are recruiting ACA students and if so what their entry requirements and recruitment processes are. Then apply direct to the relevant employer(s).
What exams do I have to sit?
The Advanced Stage is made up of the Test of Advanced Technical Competence (2 papers) and an Advanced Case Study (ACS). The aim of the Advanced Stage is to apply professional skills in real business situations, preparing trainees to become professional business advisors. The Professional Stage is
made up of 6 papers (Accounting, Audit & Assurance,
Business Finance, Business Management, Financial Reporting,
Taxation) and two devolved assessments in law.
How do I study for the exams?
Your employer will normally make all
the arrangements for you to receive exam tuition which is
provided by Sunway TES (part of Sunway College), a premier private college based at Bandar Sunway, Selangor. There will be lectures, assignments, tutorials, progress tests, mock examinations and revision courses. Some courses will be delivered by visiting UK tutors. Training organisations release students for the classes and necessary time-off to prepare for the examinations. For further details about tuition, contact Cheng Soo Min at Sunway TES on telephone: 03-7491 8622 or email: smcheng@sunway@edu.my.
Is there tuition in my country?
Tuition for the exams is available
in the Malaysia, through Sunway TES (details above). Tuition is also available in the UK, Cyprus and Greece.
Can I sit the exams without a training
contract?
You can register independently and sit
most of the exams but you will need to pay the costs yourself. To become a member of the ICAEW and obtain the ACA qualification, you will however need to complete a training contract of between 3 and 5 years and the final Advanced Stage exam can only be taken in the final year of a training contract.
How much does training cost?
If you are in a training contract, your
employer will pay you a salary and normally pay your tuition
and exam fees and allow you a reasonable amount of study
leave.
If you wish to study independently, please contact
Sunway TES for more details on tuition costs. The ICAEW
UK website - www.icaew.com -
also has details of exam fees and independent student fees.

What qualifications do I need to register
as a student?
